Community and School Perform Together!
What a brilliant evening’s entertainment at the Performing Arts Soiree! Watching all these youngsters, for many of whom this was their first stage performance, was an early Christmas treat for us all. On the evening of Friday 9th December, pupils from years 7 & 8 regaled an audience of parents and friends with: short Christmas playlets (designed, rehearsed largely after school in their own time and presented entirely by themselves); short contemporary and traditional dance routines; musical solos and duets for piano, drums and euphonium; beat boxing; and several songs from ‘lush voices’, our teen choir. The Rock Project Rock and Pop band who inspire many of our students to get involved in music were excited about performing but at the last moment was unable to take part (owing to illness). Students stepped in at very short notice to fill the breach with some excellent pieces.
Even the staff played their part with a hand-picked troupe of school staff who provided their own unique contribution; a dance interpretation of the pop song “Car Wash” to resounding applause!
Handfuls of Harmony, our Trust community choir, kindly performed several songs to conclude the evening with the audience taking part in ‘Wassailing’ to put us all in the Christmas mood.
Well done, everyone, for having the idea in the first place, putting on a great show and managing all the hard work behind the scenes to bring it together. A real show of solidarity!
The proceeds from the sale of popcorn, programmes and water will buy lots of much needed food and household wares for Caring at Christmas in the community.
