On Thursday 19th January, 240 year 5 pupils from Compass Point, Ashton Gate, Ilminster Avenue E-ACT Academy and Bridge Farm Primary Schools were invited to Ashton Park to take part in our French-themed morning. The French morning is an annual event organised to coincide with the two-week visit of French assistants from Bordeaux. This year is the 70th anniversary celebrations of the twinning with Bordeaux. We were visited by Josette Lebart, the Consul Honoraire in Bristol who was very impressed by the whole concept and organisation of the event.
Year 10 French GCSE students at Ashton Park led the morning with fun activities: les boules, ‘le shopping’, ‘les pirates’, ‘trouvez les animaux’ and ‘ les jeux en cercle”. The highlight of the morninng for a lot of the children was then ordering, in French, le chocolat chaud and pain au chocolat in Le Petit Café followed by a quiz – testing their language skills and knowledge of France to the full!
Our huge thanks go to the wonderful staff at the Long Ashton branch of the Co-operative food group for their generosity in donating the refreshments served in Le café and also to the year 10 students for their collaborative working – showing both self-help and solidarity in action!
